The 2014 Annual Meeting of the Northampton Historic Preservation Society was held on December 9th, 2014 at the Mimosa Barn in Cheriton, Virginia. Over 80 people participated in the festive holiday function.
After the dinner, catered by Amy B, the NHPS was pleased to welcome a very special guest speaker, David Brown, the EVP and Chief Preservation Officer of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
David Brown spoke about how historic preservation is changing in the 21st century. Change can be seen in how people view preservation efforts individually as well as how a landmark might hold a place in a city’s memory. Landmarks are often imbued with meaning, memory and stories. He stated that preservation is about how we impact the relevance of people, how we affect the planet, and the challenge for preservation to represent all people.
The Annual Meeting was held first and resulted in the election of three new Board members: Mary Ann Rice, Nancy Holcomb and Renee Rice.
