Eastern Shore Archaeology Day May 16th, 2015

An Eastern Shore Public Archaeology Day was held May 16th at the historic Palace Theatre in Cape Charles. Speakers included representatives from James Madison University, the USDA Forest Service, and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources among others. They covered such subjects as priority sites for research, the archaeology of watermen, and threats to archaeological resources to name a few. Attendees visited local historic sites that docents were on hand to interpret the sites and answer questions. Sites included the Barrier Islands Museum, Pear Valley Yeoman’s Cottage, Eyre Hall archaeological site, Eastville Court Green, and the Makemi Memorial .


Event was sponsored by: Archeological Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Bay Archaeological Consortium, Department of Historic Resources, USDA-Forest Service Passport in Time, George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, James Madison University, Northampton Historic Preservation Society.
